Follow winding paths through the trees to the forest tracks. At 4.5 hours this walk isn’t for the faint hearted, but the sights and sounds of the lake and green spaces throughout are unforgettable.
A moderate walk through shoreline and forest. Dogs are welcome under close control as the trail passes through sheep pasture.

From the Visitor Centre, head to the dam and then right up the hill towards the main entrance.
At the main entrance look right, then take care crossing the road and you will pick up the trail markers almost immediately for the ‘Lakes Link’ which will take you to the Alwen car park. From the car park, cross the dam and follow the path along the shoreline and up through the trees to the forest tracks. Follow the trail markers for the Two Lakes Trail, along the forest track, through the trees and up on to Mynydd Hiraethog.
Heading down from Mynnydd Hiraethog you will cross the bridge and pick up the trail which will take you all the way back to the main road, cross straight over and you are back at the Brenig. Continue straight on at the next junction. Cross the old stone bridge known as Pont Brenig and go straight on again at the next junction. This will lead you to the gate and road side trail through the Gors Maen Llwyd nature reserve.
Take care on the path next to the main road and at the top head right and back down towards the lake shoreline, take in the spectacular views as you head down.
Stay on the shoreline road, all the way to, and across the dam. Right at the end of the dam and back to where it all began!
5m / 8km. A moderate, 5 mile walk through woodland. The Elorgarreg Walking Trail should take around 2 hours to complete.
