Head across the dam, left at the end and follow the shoreline all the way around and up to the trail that runs parallel to the main road. Follow this path down, through and then up to the top of the wonderful Gors Maen Llwyd Nature Reserve.
Down and through ‘Two Gates’, across Pont Brenig and at the top of the crest pick up the Two Lake Trail marker straight in front of you. This takes you to the main road, please cross with care, where you will immediately pick the trail markers once again.
Follow the trail taking you in to Hafod Elwy, the track is rough in places! Following the trail markers you will arrive at the shoreline of the Alwen and the wooden bridge which will take you across the water so you can climb up Mynydd Hiraethog. Down and through the gate at the bottom, again take care to follow the markers as you wind your way down, up, twisting and turning, crossing bridges and cutting through the trees. Take care for walkers who are asked to walk this part of the route clockwise!
Once you drop back down to the shoreline follow the path that takes you back across the dam and to the car park. From the car park the trail markers will take you right along the road, and then left back through the forest.
Following the markers will bring you back to the main road almost directly opposite Llyn Brenig main entrance. Cross the road with care, head down towards the dam and left back to the Visitor Centre.
