Fishing Update (27 Sep 2022)

Bank fishing on the western shore of Llyn Brenig has been withdrawn.

As a result of the prolonged dry spell and falling water levels, reservoir banks on the western shore have become increasingly exposed and hazardous. The risks to anglers posed by thick mud are significant and cannot be ignored.

The safety of our fishing community is very important to us. We have therefore taken the difficult decision to withdraw bank fishing on the western shore of Llyn Brenig.

Angling remains available on the eastern side of Llyn Brenig.

Fishing at Llyn Brenig

One of my top 3 fisheries in the UK! Great parking, fantastic breakfast, great boats, and absolutely fabulous fishing.

Trip Advisor – 2020

Fishing at Llyn Brenig is a pleasure for both experienced anglers and those new to fishing – particularly fly fishing.

Whilst we’re best known for fly fishing at Llyn Brenig, we also offer pike fishing annually from 1 October and year round multi-method bank fishing in nearby Alwen Reservoir.

To accompany great fishing, we also have a Lakeside Café and specialist Fishing Shop, with everything you need to get out on the water.

Pike Fishing

From Bank

30 Sep 2023 – 30 March 2024

From Boat

30 Sep – 26 Nov 2023

Did you know that pike as large as 30lbs have been caught at the lake?

Llyn Brenig offers some amazing pike fishing from boat or pegs.

Dead sea bait and fishing lures over 6 inches are allowable over winter, with the option of overnight fishing for the hardy angler.

Anglers must book at least a day in advance and if fishing from the shore, you can download a Peg Map to help choose your preferred fishing peg location.  Alternatively, you can hire a boat to pike fish from the Llyn Brenig Lake.

Accessible Wheelyboats are available for hire (not suitable for electric wheelchairs). Please contact us for details and availability.

Pike Fishing Etiquette and Terms and Conditions must be adhered to during your Pike Fishing adventure at Llyn Brenig.

Fishing Report

The Llyn Brenig team produce a regular Fishing Report, you can find the latest below.

The report includes hot spots and not spots, bank and boat for the previous week and the most effective fishing methods.

Trout Fly Fishing

Trout Fishing Terms and Conditions

Llyn Brenig Reservoir is recognised as one of the best top-of-the water trout fisheries in the UK.

With 14m / 23km of shoreline, it is one of the best places to go fishing in Conwy (possibly North Wales!) and is chosen for many international matches.

Stocked with rainbow trout, our fish are reared on site in the cold Llyn Brenig waters, enabling them to become fully acclimatised and earn their reputation as fierce fighters.

Fishing at Llyn Brenig Reservoir is only by fly, which is best done from a boat, however, you can also fly fish from the bank.  It is recommended to book boat hire in advance.

If you are new to fly fishing, you can also book a fly fishing taster session at the Visitor Centre on  01490 389227.  The fly fishing taster sessions make a great gift or fun group activity for those visiting Conwy.

Alwen Reservoir

Permits can also be bought for fishing in the nearby Alwen Reservoir. Fishing for stocked Rainbow Trout is by fly only, it’s a great location for multi-method fishing where you can fish by spinning, natural fly and single natural worm except north of the bridge, where again it is fly fishing only.

Fishing Prices & Permits

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we’d prefer for visitors to pay for their fishing permit online in advance for fishing at Llyn Brenig Reservoir.

If this is not possible, permits can still be bought at the fishing shop using contactless payment or in the permit machines in the car park.

Permit machines only take coins so be prepared to bring plenty of change!

Fishing Season Tickets

For frequent fishing, the best value is obtained by purchasing a Season Ticket.

Choose either a combined Season Ticket for Brenig and Alwen Lakes, or for even more variety, a Season Rover Ticket which incorporated fishing at Brenig, Alwen, Beacons, Usk, Talybont.

For season ticket prices, click ‘see prices’ below and scroll to page three.
